Is Yeshua God? Part II: The Ambiguous Scriptures

The “Ambiguous Scriptures”

First I’m going to address the “ambiguous scriptures”, because it is in ambiguity through which uncertainty and debate is born.

These scriptures are those often asserted to support Yeshua as God Almighty, but are mired in translation difficulties, textual variants and contextual mishandling.

In this section, we will look at each asserted scripture of “questionable nature”, one by one, and attempt a fair examination.

As a reminder from Part I, these are the scriptures to be examined:

• “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God/Divine/godlike(?), Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” / “For a child has been born to us, a son given to us, and the authority is upon his shoulder. And the wondrous adviser, the mighty God, the everlasting Father, called his name, “the prince of peace (?). – Isaiah 9:6
• “No man has seen God at any time; the only-begotten/one of a kind(?) God/Divine/godlike one(?) who is at the Father’s side is the one who has explained Him” – John 1:18
• “In the beginning was the Word/Son(?), and the Word/Son(?) was with God, and the Word/Son(?) was God/a god/divine/godlike(?). He/it(?) was with God in the beginning. Through him/it(?) all things were made, and without him/it(?) nothing was made that has been made.”“. – John 1:1–3
• “Then the Jews said to him: “You are not yet 50 years old, and still you have seen Abraham?”Yeshua said to them: “Most truly I say to you, before Abraham came into existence, I AM/I existed before Abraham(?).” – John 8:57-58; (“God said to Moses, “I am who I am/become what I become/I am the Being(?). This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I am/I become/the Being(?) has sent me to you” – Exodus 3:14).
• “And the Judeans replied: ‘We won’t be stoning you for doing good things, but for your blasphemy!‘Although you’re just a man, you’re making yourself God/[a] god(?)'”. – John 10:33
• “And now, Father, glorify me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world existed”. – John 17:5
• “Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe. Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!/My Lord, and, my God!(?)””. – John 20:27-28
• “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are one/are in agreement(?)“. – 1 John 5:7
• “Now we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Yeshua the Anointed. He is the true God and eternal life“. – 1 John 5:20
• “So if you confess and say the words in your mouths that Yeshua is Lord/YHWH(?), and if you truly believe in your hearts that God raised him from the dead, you’ll be saved! ….Therefore: ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord/YHWH(?) will be saved!’” – Romans 10:9, 13; “Then, all who call on the name of YHWH will be the ones who are saved…”. – Joel 2:32
• “And to the messenger of the church in Laodicea write: These things says the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the beginning/origin/ruler(?) of God’s creation“. – Revelation 3:14
• “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of/over(?) every creation“ – Colossians 1:15
• “Rather, the divinity/deity/Godhead(?) fully lives within him bodily, and you’re [also] fully within him, [the one] who’s the head and source of all government and power”. – Colossians 2:9–10
• “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness/piety(?); God/he(?) was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory”. – 1 Timothy 3:16
• “Keep this mental attitude in you that was also in [the] Anointed Yeshua, who, although he was existing in God’s appearance/was God himself (?), did not steal equality to God/did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage(?).” – Philippians 2:5-6
• “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature/seal of his assurance(?), and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high”. – Hebrews 1:3
• “But about the Son [it says]: ‘Your throne, O God/God is your throne/Your throne is God’s(?), forever and ever, and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom’.” – Hebrews 1:8
• “But, when speaking of the Son, [it said]… ‘In the beginning, Lord/YHWH, you laid the foundations of the earth, and [you] made the heavens with your hands. But although they’ll pass away, you’ll still remain; For like clothes, they’ll grow old. Then, as [you would do to] a robe, you’ll wrap them up and change them, but, you remain the same, and your years will never expire'”. – Hebrews 1:8 10-12, Psalm 102:2
• “Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life(?)/without [any record of] beginning of days nor ending of life(?), resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever”. – Hebrews 7:3
• “This letter is from Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Yeshua [the] Anointed. I am writing to you who share the same precious faith we have. This faith was given to you because of the justice and fairness of Yeshua [the] Anointed, our God/Lord(?) and Savior”. – 2 Peter 1:1
• “Keep watch over yourselves and the entire flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the congregation of God/the Lord(?), which he purchased with his own blood“. – Acts 20:28
• “…waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Yeshua [the] Anointed/of our great God, and of our Saviour Yeshua [the] Anointed(?)…” – Titus 2:13
• “Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them proceeds the human descent of [the] Anointed [One], who is God/a god(?) over all, blessed forever!/[the] Anointed [One] who is over all. God be blessed forever!(?) Amen”. – Romans 9:5
• “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness” – Genesis 1:26

To avoid having a headache inducing eternal wall of text where I go into detail of these scriptures one by one on this single page (as I did formally), each passage will be examined independently within the confines of a dedicated page for each.

Conclusion of Part II

As we can see, examining the scriptures in a thorough manner, many passages which are ‘asserted’ as proof texts of Yeshua being God, really aren’t proof texts at all, but have merely succumbed to either mistranslation or miscontextualisation.

Meanwhile, the other few scriptures which in some way might be argued to support the idea of Yeshua’s deity, can be open to several interpretations of meaning, and so are not guaranteed proof texts of such doctrine, especially so when paired with other verses, even within the very passages they are taken from.

We have not one direct or confirmable quote here in these collections of verses, that Yeshua is undeniably God Almighty himself, part of his being, or of his literal substance. What’s more, is that it’s even worse in that there are in fact scriptures that have been proven to be edited or inserted! And, it is never a good sign when it appears certain individuals are so desperate to assert their theology they have to start going about to change the scriptures to suit it, and typically is tell tale of lies and desperation, something that should not be needed to assert truth.
